FAIL

So...the lovely advent calendar was a big fat FAIL! I was really busy with Thanksgiving and company and then got really sick for over a week, so I never quite got around to making anything crafty. And now I'm just out of steam. Oh well, maybe next year! Sorry Nate...
Here are some more "fails" in honor of the moment...

Yes, I know Christmas is still a month and a half away...

So I have been eyeing this adorable advent calendar for years, but could never justify buying it because it was so expensive (as most things at Pottery Barn are). It made me sad because I just know Nate would LOVE it! But this year I decided to just make my own.
Am I crazy you ask? Why yes, yes I am.
I saw it up close and personal at the mall last weekend, and it actually doesn't look like it would be that difficult to make. It's made of felt (which is usually cheap), and the sewing is just straight lines, except for the star and tree. Of course, I haven't even attempted it yet, so we will see if I am wrong. Anyway, I just thought I'd post about it in case someone else out there is as crazy as me and is interested in making this little beauty. I'll post updates on my progress later (when I actually get around to starting it). I'm hoping to finish it before December, since that's when you are supposed to start the "count down" to Christmas....fingers crossed that will happen! :/

more adventures in sewing...

These are my latest creations.
They are little tie onesies that I made for my friend who is having a baby boy in June.
I thought she could put him in these for church ...
I just wish I had these for my little guy when he was a baby...

Polkadot tie...

Stripes version...

sewing fiend

Sewing is the new awsome! Well, at least for me. I just got my first sewing machine this December. I was so excited because I've been wanting to learn how to sew for a really long time. (And it probably didn't help that I love watching Project Runway). My mother-in-law was kind enough (and patient enough) to teach me how. I've already made a few things. My latest creation has been some burp cloths for a friend of mine. I'm throwing her a baby shower in May and I thought that it would be a fun project. I made the pattern myself and just followed some instructions I found off the internet. I think they turned out pretty good for a first project on my own.

They have "rag" edges...

Love the pokadots...

These are cute little sea animals.... A Bar-B-Que grilling apron I made for Ben....

This is a little bag I made for Nate since he LOVES Buzz from Toy Story...I figured he could use it for his library books or toys or something.
