Today was Nate's first day of school!
We had a big debate whether to start him so early (he's only 4), but in England, they start school this young. We thought he would benefit from a cultural experience, so he attends the local village school where we live. It is nice because it is within walking distance from our house. His age group is called Reception and it is basically the equivalent of preschool on steroids. Since I was planning on putting Nate in preschool this year (in America), he's never actually had any formal schooling yet. So I was pretty nervous about how he would do.
Here he is, ready to walk to school! This is the best smile I could get from him...seriously.We had a big debate whether to start him so early (he's only 4), but in England, they start school this young. In summary, the first day of school was pretty much a success! What a relief..I just don't know if I'm ready to do it all again tomorrow! He didn't have any tantrums about going and didn't cry when I dropped him off. (But I can't say the same for me). He was so excited to put on his uniform and kept waving and saying hi to all the children as we walked to his class. After school I asked him how it went and he said it was really fun and that he made some friends, but doesn't remember their names. The only comments the teacher gave were that he had a very strong American accent and they would work at understanding him better as the year progressed, and that he would probably need a few weeks to feel completely at home. Hopefully we will settle in to a new routine soon and will get the hang of this whole school thing...me included!
Grandma and Grandpa left some treats for the first day of school...

Ohhh Amber!! Nate looks so cute! I can't believe he is already going to school. I bet he is loving to play with other kids. It's funny you mention about Nate forgetting the names of his new friends, because is the same answer Hailey gave me after the first day of School haha.
Tell the boys that his cousins are looking at their pictures and telling me to say "hi" to them :)
I hope you adapt to the whole school thing soon! ;)
